Story topic this week…

Superman Saves Cleveland

Book Cover

Drawing on years of research in the trenches of Cleveland libraries, boarded-up high schools, secret, private collections, and a love of comic books, Brad Ricca is an expert on the amazing adventures of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the Glenville buddies who created Superman. During this Cleveland Stories panel, Ricca will explain Superman’s historical, social and cultural significance by tracing his beginnings and the society in which he was created.

Brad Ricca Bio

He has appeared in documentaries on the History Channel, AMC, and has been a guest on many podcasts and radio shows, including Criminal, All Things Considered, Tenfold More Wicked, BBC Radio, and others. His independent film Last Son won a Silver Ace Award at the Las Vegas Film Festival. On the big screen, he can be seen in X-Men and Dogma (in roles of under ten seconds each). He has a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, where he sometimes teaches, and was awarded the Richard A. Bloom, M.D. Award for Distinguished Teaching. He lives in Cleveland with Caroline and their three boys.

The goal of the Cleveland Stories Dinner Party is to bring to life some of the fun, interesting stories about Cleveland’s past – from sports, to rock ‘n roll, to Millionaire’s Row, — the series will focus on tidbits from Cleveland’s past that will really thrill the audience. The Music Box is presenting this series in partnership with the Western Reserve Historical Society’s new Cleveland History Center. We think the Cleveland History Center is one of the most important museums in Cleveland. An unknown gem that Clevelanders should know more about, and support. It is the only museum in Cleveland dedicated to preserving and documenting the history of Cleveland. The Cleveland History Center includes two mansions, the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum, Chisholm Halle Costume Wing, Research Library, Kidzibits Hands-On Gallery, rotating exhibitions, and the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel.
