Why you should see this show…

What happens when a popular rock radio DJ retires, sells everything and, with his wife, takes off in an RV to see America? Jeff Kinzbach is a legend of Cleveland radio with an epic 50-year run, first as part of the Buzzard Morning Zoo on WMMS-FM/100.7 in Cleveland and later at WONE-FM/97.5 in Akron. When he retired in 2020, Kinzbach and his wife, Patti, sold their home and hit the road in an RV to tour America. They soon invited the public along for the ride, launching their own weekly podcast, “Rocking the RV Life,” to share their stories from the road and offer tips and advice to other road warriors or those contemplating an RV adventure.

The Kinzbachs recently teamed up with Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer to bring that podcast to a larger audience. They’ll share their stories live onstage with award-winning Cleveland.com/Plain Dealer Travel Editor Susan Glaser. How did Patti end up in a dumpster after a romantic dinner in California? How did a bonfire with their daughter turn into a wild L.A. beach party? Did the couple have any luck finding Bigfoot? Find out tonight. The event will be recorded for an upcoming “Rocking the RV Life” episode.

The Kinzbachs have been up and down and across America a couple of times since retiring. And they have many more adventures planned for 2022. They’ll be touring the western coast of Michigan before heading into Canada along the St. Lawrence Seaway to go whale watching. After that, they’ll move on to Maine and down the East Coast, eventually ending up in Key West. Join them on the trip!

Susan Glaser, Host

(Travel editor, Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer)
Susan Glaser has been travel editor and chief travel writer for The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com since 2008, specializing in regional travel and the business of travel. Among her favorite destinations: Ohio’s Hocking Hills region, the Lake Erie islands, and Iceland (OK, not a regional destination, but Reykjavik was a short five-hour flight from Cleveland for a few glorious months in 2018). In 2021, The Plain Dealer and Susan received the top Gold Award for Newspaper Travel Coverage in the prestigious Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition, for coverage of travel during the pandemic. She has never traveled in an RV – but maybe Jeff and Patti Kinzbach can convince her to give it a try during their upcoming conversation.

Jeff Kinzbach had a 50-year career as a morning radio personality. He was the highly rated morning DJ on WMMS in Cleveland and was a major influence on bringing the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame to the city. He later became the morning show host on WONE in Akron and helped the station achieve top ratings.

Patti was a graduate of Firestone High School in Akron and met Jeff in 1987 on a Caribbean cruise vacation that WMMS was sponsoring. It was a fitting way to meet because they both love to travel. In fact, several months after they met, they took a trip to Hawaii, Tahiti and Bora Bora in the South Pacific. It was Patti’s dream when they retired to buy an RV and travel throughout America to see all the sights they missed while working.

After about a year into their travels they decided to start a podcast to tell their story about RVing and everything they had learned. Jeff and Patti have been married for 33 years and they have one daughter who is an aerospace engineer in Los Angeles.
