ABREPASO flamenco, Northeast Ohio’s premiere flamenco music and dance company presents flamenco in its most traditional setting – a tablao. Feel the intensity of the music and dance in this intimate setting.

This performance will feature Alice Blumenfeld and Marija Temo, along with dancers from ABREPASO flamenco.

Tablao Flamenco Bios
Marija Temo is a classical/flamenco guitarist, flamenco vocalist, conductor, and former dancer. She has come into her own, combining her flamenco and classical abilities in unique types of performance. “Challenging the rules of traditional flamenco…She continues to break new ground…” Philadelphia Inquirer. A few highlights include: Vocal contestant on La Voz US, NBC TV; Composer/Arranger/Accompanist for the “Flamenco Nutcracker” production; Performer and judge at The Guitar Foundation of America International Guitar Festival and Competition; Performer with the Zac Brown Band, and has had two works for guitar and written for her by Loris Chobanian. Temo is Guitar Chair at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Milwaukee, WI. She is an alumna of Baldwin- Wallace College and Peabody Conservatory of Music. www. Marijatemo.com.

Alice Blumenfeld is known for a unique and “fierce presence (her movements seem to arise from several feet beneath the ground)” (Thinking Dance) and her “sharp and exhilarating” energy onstage (Philadelphia Inquirer). Blumenfeld is the founder and artistic director of ABREPASO flamenco. The company’s name means to break open space and their mission is to deepen appreciation for flamenco and create original choreographies, finding new entry points into and new pathways within the art form. Blumenfeld’s recognitions include: a Fulbright recipient in dance in Spain, a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, and a two-time Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award recipient in choreography (FY20 & 22). She toured nationally with Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, and has been a guest artist with Nélida Tirado, the American Bolero Dance Company, Antonio Granjero, Jácome Flamenco, among other companies and she has performed in Berlin and Spain. Blumenfeld holds an MFA in Dance from Hollins University and a BA in Comparative Literature from New York University where she graduated summa cum laude, with highest departmental honors, and Phi Beta Kappa.

Eloy St. Cyr Gonzales began his study of Flamenco with the opening of Tierra Adentro de Nuevo México charter school in 2010. There, he was introduced to flamenco dance by teachers such as Alisa Alba and Elena Osuna. At Tierra Adentro, he was also introduced to the flamenco guitar by Mario Febres. Later, receiving a scholarship to the National Institute of Flamenco’s Conservatory of Flamenco Arts, he studied dance under Joaquin and Marisol Encinias and guitar with Ricardo Anglada. Since graduating from Tierra Adentro, Eloy has since dedicated himself to the study of Flamenco guitar while also studying interdisciplinary arts at the University of New Mexico. He has performed nationally in theaters and festivals such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Music in the Park festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Most recently he performed at the Festival de Jerez in Spain in 2023. He accompanies the flamenco courses at the University of New Mexico along with playing at many of the flamenco tablaos in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
