Why you should see this show…

The Ohio Hip Hop Awards 20-Year Anniversary Dinner is more than a celebration—it’s a historic gathering honoring two decades of culture, creativity, entrepreneurship, and impact throughout Ohio’s hip-hop community. From legendary artists and industry executives to media personalities, DJs, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, this special evening recognizes the pioneers and trailblazers who helped shape the Midwest music scene. Attendees will experience unforgettable moments, powerful networking opportunities, special tributes, and a chance to be part of hip-hop history as we celebrate the legacy and future of one of the nation’s longest-running hip-hop award platforms.

And the best part? This event is a fundraiser for 2 youth nonprofit organizations that help carry on the legacy established by the OHHA movement: Krayzie Bone’s Spread the Love Foundation, and Johnny O’s Nerve DJ Institute.

About The Ohio Hip Hop Awards

The Ohio Hip Hop Awards was established in 2006 as a platform to celebrate, acknowledge, and honor the talent, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit that has shaped Ohio’s music and entertainment industry. Launched at the legendary Metropolis Nightclub, the awards quickly became one of the Midwest’s premier celebrations of Hip-Hop culture, recognizing excellence across multiple creative disciplines including artists, producers, DJs, models, videographers, radio personalities, media outlets, promoters, and business professionals.

Founded by Derrick McKenzie, Phillip Vasquez, D. Lorand Jackson, Quincy “Big Heff” Taylor, and John “Suave Gotti” Davis, the organization was created to provide a unified platform that spotlighted Ohio’s diverse creative community while connecting artists and industry professionals from across the state. Over the years, the awards have expanded beyond music to recognize the broader creative economy and cultural impact of Ohio’s entertainment ecosystem.

The Ohio Hip Hop Awards features prestigious categories such as Album of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year, and numerous community and industry-focused honors. One of the event’s most respected traditions is the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards, recognizing pioneers and foundational figures whose contributions have helped build and sustain Ohio’s music and entertainment landscape for future generations.

Throughout its history, the awards have welcomed some of the most influential names in music, media, literature, and entertainment. Notable attendees and honorees have included Machine Gun Kelly, Krayzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Hi-Tek, Al Fatz, Ray Cash, Lantana, Steve Lobel, Kevin Black, Nikki Giovanni, Amir Windom, TJ Chapman, Matthew “M80” Markoff, and many other influential figures who have contributed to the growth and visibility of Ohio’s creative community. National media outlets and industry platforms such as Ozone Magazine and AllHipHop.com have also participated in and covered the event, helping elevate its profile beyond the Midwest.

As the event grew, it expanded into some of Ohio’s most recognized venues, including COSI in Columbus, the Agora Ballroom, the Galleria Mall, and the historic State Theater. These landmark locations have hosted thousands of attendees while showcasing the significance of Ohio’s creative and cultural contributions.

Today, the Ohio Hip Hop Awards stands as more than an awards show—it is a cultural institution dedicated to documenting, preserving, and celebrating the achievements of Ohio’s artists, entrepreneurs, and innovators. For nearly two decades, the organization has served as a catalyst for networking, education, mentorship, and recognition, helping ensure that Ohio’s contributions to music, media, arts, and culture receive the spotlight they deserve on both a regional and national stage.

As the organization approaches its 20th Anniversary celebration, the Ohio Hip Hop Awards continues its mission of honoring excellence, creating opportunities, and preserving the legacy of the individuals and organizations that have helped shape Ohio’s vibrant creative industry.
