Jeff & Flash of WMMS Rule the World!
It’s the end of an era after a 30-year long career. Jeff Kinzbach decided to retire on September 30th after hosting morning radio for those three decades. Jeff and Ed are most known for their on-air duo “Jeff and Flash” on 100.7 WMMS’s “The Buzzard Morning Zoo.” Kinzbach began his radio career at just 16 years old at WIXY 1260 AM. From there, his first on-air gig was over the summer at a station in Saginaw, Michigan. When he moved back home in 1973, WMMS brought him on as a production director, where he met Ed Ferenc and began their decades-long friendship. Three years later, their energetic, successful radio journey began. The duo went on to become an integral part of one of the best radio stations in the country, winning that title 9 years in a row. Their “radio royalty” brought big names like The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen to Cleveland. Join Jeff and Ed as they look back in the rear-view mirror at their successful career.
 

Jeff Kinzbach Bio

Jeff Kinzbach grew up on the west side of Cleveland and is a life-long resident of Northeast Ohio. He spent over 20 years at WMMS in Cleveland as the morning show host. By utilizing innovative comedy, interviewing some of the biggest names in music and helping launch the careers of many of the classic rock bands, Jeff set records as one of the highest rated morning personalities in northern Ohio. Jeff was also the voice of WOIO-TV and appeared on many local shows. Jeff was a major force in getting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame located in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland Area Broadcasters “Excellence in Broadcasting” award-winner, a Radio Television Broadcasters Hall of Fame inductee and a published author, Jeff gives back to the community with numerous charitable initiatives. Jeff and his wife Patti, a graduate of Firestone in Akron have been married for over 31 years and have a daughter, McKenzie who is an aerospace engineer for SpaceX. In his spare time, Jeff likes hiking and bicycling in the parks, photography, traveling and listening to his extensive vinyl album collection.
 

Ed “Flash” Ferenc Bio

Ed “Flash” Ferenc is a life-long broadcaster and credits his start in the industry doing the morning announcements at Normandy High School in Parma in 1970-71. After graduating, he attended Cleveland State University and joined the staff at WCSU, the campus radio station. A major in Communications, Flash jumped on an opportunity in 1973 and was hired by the News Director of WHK to assist in the preparation of the morning newscasts. In 1974, he moved to WHK’s sister station, WMMS where he did the news every half hour in the morning. In 1976, after working behind the scenes with Production Director Jeff Kinzbach, the Jeff and Flash Show was born and their program dominated Cleveland radio for a generation.

Flash currently hosts a pro-union radio show called America’s Workforce, which is broadcast locally and podcast nationally on six digital platforms (awfradio.com). He also hosts a live variety show every Saturday morning from 10-11am on 1490 WERE and all shows are posted on flashpointnow.com.

He and his wife of 34 years also operate a public relations and advertising agency called “Flashpoint” and for the past 22 years he worked as Public Information Officer for the Cleveland Municipal Court. Flash is a member of the Cleveland and the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame and in 2015 was named as one of Cleveland State University’s “50 Fascinating Alumni.”
 
The goal of the Cleveland Stories Dinner Party is to bring to life some of the fun, interesting stories about Cleveland’s past – from sports, to rock ‘n roll, to Millionaire’s Row, — the series will focus on tidbits from Cleveland’s past that will really thrill the audience. The Music Box is presenting this series in partnership with the Western Reserve Historical Society’s new Cleveland History Center. We think the Cleveland History Center is one of the most important museums in Cleveland. An unknown gem that Clevelanders should know more about, and support. It is the only museum in Cleveland dedicated to preserving and documenting the history of Cleveland. The Cleveland History Center includes two mansions, the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum, Chisholm Halle Costume Wing, Research Library, Kidzibits Hands-On Gallery, rotating exhibitions, and the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel.
