2024 Cleveland Int’l Film Festival Preview Night
The Cleveland International Film Festival is an Academy qualifying festival and one of the largest film festivals in the country! Executive Director Marcie Goodman announced that she is stepping down after 23 years in June, shortly after the festival. Marcie and Patrick Shepherd (who has worked on the festival for 25 years!) will take the stage to share stories about the history of the festival and highlight some of the great films you’ll want to see in this year’s fest.

After the talk, they will screen some short films and trailers of feature films from the CIFF48 program!

Marcie Goodman Bio

Marcie Goodman is the executive director of the Cleveland International Film Festival. Under her guidance, the festival has increased attendance, film submissions, memberships, and budget. But the focus of CIFF, she says, is always on better, not bigger and on creating a festival that reflects the community. “We believe this festival belongs to Cleveland and our region, so we do everything we can to involve the community,” she explains.

Since graduating from Case Western Reserve University, she has spent her entire career in non-profit organizations, including the Federation for Community Planning, now The Center for Community Solutions. In 1994, she took the development director position at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, now MOCA Cleveland, but returned to CIFF in 1998, first as managing director and since 2001 as executive director.

Patrick Shepherd Bio

Patrick Shepherd is in the midst of his 25th year working for the Cleveland International Film Festival and has served as the organization’s Associate Director since 2006. A lifelong Ohio resident and co-president of his Leadership Cleveland Class of 2020, Patrick has served as a Board of Directors member for nonprofits such as the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland. He was the 2007 recipient of the Human Rights Campaign Leadership Award in recognition of his work on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community. Patrick previously worked at the American Red Cross, where he won the American Red Cross Tiffany Award for Employee Excellence in 1999. He resides in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood, where he will serve as a Take a Hike tour guide for the second consecutive year this summer.

The goal of the Cleveland Stories Dinner Party is to bring to life some of the fun, interesting stories about Cleveland’s past – from sports, to rock ‘n roll, to Millionaire’s Row, — the series will focus on tidbits from Cleveland’s past that will really thrill the audience. The Music Box is presenting this series in partnership with the Western Reserve Historical Society’s new Cleveland History Center. We think the Cleveland History Center is one of the most important museums in Cleveland. An unknown gem that Clevelanders should know more about, and support. It is the only museum in Cleveland dedicated to preserving and documenting the history of Cleveland. The Cleveland History Center includes two mansions, the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum, Chisholm Halle Costume Wing, Research Library, Kidzibits Hands-On Gallery, rotating exhibitions, and the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel.
