Classic Neil Young Hits!

Faithfully Delivered Classic Young from Across His Career

Why you should see this show…

Broken Arrow performs the music of Neil Young, featuring both the rockin’ electric Crazy Horse tunes and the more acoustic, pedal steel driven country rock material. The band delivers these classic songs faithfully while taking them out on some jamming excursions and tastefully tweaking some of the arrangements. Joe Mass nails the Neil vocals perfectly and the harmonies are spot on. Broken Arrow has audiences on their feet singing along and demanding encores at every show.

Broken Arrow Bio
The band is fronted by Joe Mass, veteran virtuoso Philly guitar player, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. (www.joemass.com) Joe has toured and recorded with artists such as Bootsy Collins, Robert Hazard, Essra Mohawk, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, and Rick Derringer He was music director for Grammy Award winning artist, (Maniac from the film Flashdance), Michael Sembello. Joe is a featured guitar player at the prestigious Dallas International Guitar Festival, alongside the likes of Sonny Landreth, Andy Timmons, Jimmy Wallace, Greg Koch, Gary Hoey, and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith. Joe’s vocal and instrumental interpretation of Neil’s music is faithful to the original, yet he puts his own stamp on these iconic songs with his incendiary playing and some cool segues and arrangements.

Danny Gold plays bass and sings harmony in Broken Arrow. He is the owner of Danny’s Guitar Shop in Narberth, and host of WHYY’s Danny’s Guitar Shop TV show (www.dannysguitarshop.com, www.dannysguitarshop.tv). A steady presence on Philly’s live music scene since the 80’s, Dan has played bass with The Dukes of Destiny, (including the night they backed up the legendary Otis Rush), Bill Kirchen, Beats Walkin’, Ben Arnold, Wanamaker Lewis, and others.

On drums and vocal harmonies we have Larry Freedman, another Philadelphia band veteran for decades, who owns and operates 2nd Street Productions (www.2ndstprod.com) recording studio. Larry produces the jingles and bumper music that plays round the clock on news radio stations KYW in Philadelphia and WBZ in Boston. He had played with the backing band for Daryl Hall’s vocal group, The Temptones (before Hall and Oates) and played on the Grammy winning gospel song of the year, “Loves Me Like A Rock,” by the Dixie Hummingbirds. Larry and Danny have played together in various bands and projects over the past 30 years. They are a rare example of a very musical rhythm section with a great feel that instantly drops into that schweet pocket without even thinking about it.

Marty Cohl handles electric and pedal steel guitar duties in Broken Arrow. His soulful country rock / bluegrass informed instrumental style is the band’s secret sauce. Marty injects his unique twang-a-delic flavor into these classic tunes while remaining fundamentally true to Neil’s compositional vision. In the early 70’s he headed west from his musically rich home town of Nyack, NY to San Francisco. In the Bay Area he joined “funky western” country rock band Sunnybrook, where he first teamed up with Danny. Among Marty’s most inspirational guitar heroes are Neil Young, Steven Stills, Jerry Garcia, Clarence White, Ben Keith, and Mike Campbell.
